Ever since the galaxy became populated with ships, vehicles, and facilities, recycling has been an important part of galactic life. When manufactured items became obsolete or worn past further use, it was discovered that the materials could be broken back down to more basic components and reused in future project materials. This tended to help societies with expenses, as there was less burden to harvest raw materials, an expensive and time consuming endeavor. The first space station to be developed and used for this end was, as the name would suggest, the Recycling 1. Its inventors stressed a simple, practical design to best serve the needs of their business.
The station is divided into six sections, which are almost completely identical, and one lower section between the six that holds the main docking bay, quarters, and offices. Every section consists of a large docking bay, an access tunnel to the main section, and a Heavy Laser Defensive Turret. The large bays are used for storage and processing of debris, wreckage, old ships and vehicles, and parking for the workers' transport ships.
On an average working day at the station, there are fifty workers in each bay and roughly one hundred people in the main section. The main section consists mostly of office workers, who maintain records and appointments, but it also includes various service workers and any clients who may be visiting. Although considered a small station by modern standards, its design is still useful for smaller recycling groups or less populated star systems.
